Our Action Foci (2024-2025)
The League of Women Voters of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area has adopted the following action foci:
As a member of both the state and national League organizations, LWV-LF/LB chooses state and national issues that warrant focus at state and national League conventions. LWV-LF/LB retains its ability to focus on one, a few, or all of these issues. Each year, at our Program Planning meetings, our membership also selects issues which will be the subject of local League action during the following year.
Environmental Stewardship
LWVUS position in brief: promote an environment beneficial to life through the protection and wise management of natural resources in the public interest. Preserve the physical, chemical, and biological integrity of the ecosystem, with maximum protection of public health and the environment.
Transparency in Government
The League of Women Voters believes that democratic government depends upon informed and active participation in government and requires that governmental bodies protect the citizen’s right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings, and making public records accessible.
Civic Engagement
Continue efforts to ensure that our community is aware of opportunities for civic participation, particularly in local government, strive to educate the public about the role of government including procedures for filing candidacy, and work on civic education on the electoral process, including younger demographics.
